Applications for BirthWise Birth Support for Parents-to-be now open.
It takes less than two minutes to apply!
Pregnant women have particular challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic. BirthWise, who support parents, have identified situations where women don’t have a trusted person to be with them when they give birth. This includes women who have additional social needs without any family or friends as a support network, and those whose partners have to care for other children or are having Covid-19 symptoms.
BirthWise have been awarded a £10,000 grant from the National lottery community fund to provide specially trained birth companions known as doulas to women who don’t have anyone else and cannot access this support themselves. We will endeavour to ensure these women have support in the final weeks of pregnancy and throughout their birth during the current pandemic.
All Doulas are required to provide access NI basic checks, indemnity insurance and proof of certification from courses accredited by Doula UK, DONA, Doula Canada or ProDoula.
Who Can Apply?
Women who are 30+ weeks pregnant who find themselves without access to a birthing partner due to COVID-19. They must have an address in Northern Ireland and be unable to pay for a private doula.
What is involved?
If successful in your application, you will be provided with a list of Doulas who are available in your area around the date of your due date.
You will be able to speak with the Doulas to ensure you are a good match and you will then have time to get to know your Doula.
If you go into labour naturally, notify your doula and she will arrange to meet you at your planned birth place. If you have a planned caesarean birth, you will make arrangements with your doula in advance.
Applications are now open.
Please note application reviews will occur on a bi-weekly basis funding dependant.
